Thought Bite - Play with Maths - Logical Intelligence



Often when I meet kids at the park, all I hear about is mobiles, laptops, video games, shopping, travel, food, and friends.

Often when I meet people at informal places like office canteen, café, or parties – topics which I hear about are mobiles, laptops, video games, shopping, travel, food and friends.

Hmmmmmmm

  • I do not listen Geography
  • I do not listen Maths
  • I do not listen Science
  • Or about Grammar 

While the maths, science, geography, and grammar are all around me, I use it in my life to live……….but I do not feel it, I am not aware of it, I am alien to it. Maths is seen as calculations and is used to check intelligence. Children meet maths, through checking: “do you know this?” “Can you do this calculation?”  

When I give calculator to kids to play maths – they look at me with wonder, can maths be played?
When I give playing cards to kids and play maths – they look at me with wonder, can maths be played?

First outdoor with different age kids. The goal was to explore “maths in Traffic”. We began by collecting data at two different signals. We counted vehicles,  categorized them like color, size, shape, brand, and so on. Its time for us parents to go back to school - not to learn new things, but to unlearn - ​ a whole lot of what we have ​been ​unfortunately conditioned with.   Its time ​to question our beliefs, its time for some de-weeding   ​ - to create a better, more organic, more meaningful and vitalizing ecosystem for our children.
